Long Description:

The department of Aerospace Engineering at Delft University has more than 120 researcher active in the field of light weight structures and materials. The research activities range from basic fundamental research up to applied research. The department is able to design, process, manufacture, test and characterize materials at molecule level up to full scale structures. The typical focus area are aerospace and windenergy, but any emerging application, i.e. automotive, shipbuilding, offshore, that is in need of affordable light weight structures is also present in the current research portfolio. The department has been the nursery of many new developments of which the thermoplastics composite for aerospace (i.e CETEX) and fibre metal composites (GLARE) are the most famous. One of the current key developments is that of affordable thermoplatistic composites.
